Triathlon related Instagram accounts worth a follow

Triathlon related Instagram accounts

Like me, most people with an involvement in triathlon enjoy following triathlon related instagram accounts. Some stars of triathlon are doing a great job of giving us an insight into their daily lives. Sharing training sessions of swimming, cycling or running make their fans feel included. Some go further sharing some downtime activities showing that they are indeed much the same as those that follow them.

I have selected some of my favourite triathlon related instagram accounts to share with you. These instagrammers will fill your story feed and main feed with regular posts, hopefully providing you the inspiration to keep training.

Richard Murray

Insta Story: Multiple daily posts

Insta Feed: Every 2 -3 days

Richard is a South African triathlete who won his first WTS race in 2012. He gives his all in every race and is always one to watch on the run. Keeping interviews lively with his straight talking but passionate answers. That passion can boil over (see Hamburg 2016) but that is what makes Richard the character he is.

Posts are focussed on his daily training with his wife Rachel Klamer. Richard has a good sense of humour and doesn’t take himself too seriously. Using a GoPro he gets some nice footage of training rides and runs. Sharing his training and downtime gives a good insight into the everyday life of a pro triathlete.

Rachel Klamer

Insta Story: 2 – 3 daily posts

Insta Feed: 1 – 2 times a week

Rachel is a professional athlete in her own right but is also the wife of Richard Murray. Since 2018 Rachel has been a constant in the front of most WTS races. Although a solid all round triathlete Rachel always seems strongest on the bike.

Rachel’s insta posting is of course similar to that of her husband Richard. Training and racing together most of the year Rachel’s posts often give a slightly different view to those of Richard. Her account really shows how much they enjoy training and traveling together.

Tommy Zaferes

Insta Story: Multiple daily posts

Insta Feed: Every 2 – 3 days

Tommy Zaferes is probably best known as the husband of Katie Zaferes. Retiring from 16 years competitive swimming after the 2008 Olympic trials, he switched to triathlon in 2010. After developing his skills as a photographer around triathlon events as a hobby Tommy has become a regular media team member at both WTS and Super League events.

Now racing for fun most of Tommy’s posts are high quality photos from training with the JFT Crew, Katie and pro races around the world. His relationships with the pro triathletes allows him to get photos of those behind the scene moments.

Lucy Charles-Barclay

Lucy Charles-Barclay@lucycharles93

Insta Story: Multiple daily posts

Insta Feed: Every 2 – 3 days

In 2020 Lucy employed her sister Holly to run her social media and this has seen the quality & quantity improve. A former elite distance swimmer Lucy just missed out on qualifying for London 2012. After leaving competitive swimming her Ironman debut in 2014 saw her take then win, following this up in 2015 by winning the 18-24 amatuer category at Ironman worlds in Kona. Lucy is known for having the fastest swimming in the female pro field but is also strong on the bike.

Training with her husband Reece Barclay, Lucy’s instagram shows their daily route of training. With time split between Lanzarote and the Uk her training is varied and provides some great insta content. Lucy has one of the best equipped pain caves of any pro triathlete making training Uk training consistent no matter the weather. When not training indoors Lucy can be found on the roads and trails around Epping Forest. Her Lanzarote base is at Club La Santa who provide Lucy with first class training facilities during her stay. When on the island Lucy will often work with James Mitchell, a good friend and professional sports photographer. James provides some of the very best photos for Lucy’s instagram.  (
